World Book Day 2025
We love reading at William Cobbett Primary School and we had a great day celebrating books on World Book Day. The day was filled with creativity, fun, and a shared passion for books.
Key Highlights:
-
Dressing Up as Book Characters: Children and staff came to school dressed as an amazing variety of book characters.
-
Decorate Potato Competition: A number of children entered the 'Decorate a Potato' competition, using their imagination to turn ordinary potatoes at home into their book characters. The creativity on display was impressive, with entries ranging from Supertato to Harry Potter.
-
Book Bistro: Each class held a Book Bistro where children could enjoy a variety of books.
-
Book Sale: A book sale was organized, offering a variety of books at low prices. This raised money which will go to further enhance our book stock.
-
Author Visits: The school was lucky enough to host several authors in the days around Book Day. These visits provided a unique opportunity for students to learn about the writing process.
-
Focus on a Book: Each class focused on a specific book for the day. Activities related to the book included reading sessions, discussions, and creative projects.
-
Secret Reader visitors at the infants: Our infant children were delighted by Secret Reader visitors, who surprised them by reading stories aloud. These visits happen fortnightly at the infants and the children love finding out who is visiting and what book they have brought to share.
-
Designing Bookmarks: Students also had the chance to design their own bookmarks. This activity allowed them to express their creativity and create a personalized accessory for their reading adventures.
World Book Day at William Cobbett Primary School was a resounding success. The diverse range of activities ensured that every student found something to enjoy, and the focus on reading and creativity made the day both educational and fun. The event not only celebrated books but also strengthened the school's reading culture.
